Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new network technologies and make recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Virtual Private Network (VPN) configuration, administration and troubleshooting
  • Plan and integrate new configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for network interfaces to insure effective integration and optimal network performance.
  • Perform enterprise network configuration and maintenance as it relates to Cisco, Juniper, etc. network components; network encryption devices; and computer workstations and servers.
  • Configure, troubleshoot and design Cisco routers (or other vendor) and multilayer switches.
  • Design and plan network communications systems; plan and formulate engineering program.
  • Experience creating network drawings and diagrams using Microsoft Visio
  • Support the program’s senior leadership personnel and manage small projects from inception to completion including technical assessments, architectural design and planning, integration, testing, and implementation.
  • Diagnose network failures and take appropriate steps to promptly repair or restore services.
  • Prepare a network monitoring and disaster recovery plan for Sponsor networks.
  • Conduct continuous monitoring and testing of network designs.
  • Create Layer 2/Layer3 provisioning and configuration control board documentation.
  • Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Conduct network topology surveys.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ direct experience in network administration, configuration and maintenance as it relates to network components, network encryption devices, and computer workstation and server networking.
  • Advanced understanding of networking systems and TCP/IP to include experience in IP addressing and subnetting, network address translation, MTU and QoS.
  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching systems (Cisco preferred), routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP), and gateway redundancy protocols (HSRP, VRRP, and GLRP); to include troubleshooting issues with these protocols.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multicast, virtual LANs, trunking, network security appliances, SONET, ATM, MPLS and POS.
  • Experience supporting the full engineering lifecycle.


Desired Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline or comparable hands-on experience
